Allyson currently works as the Communications Editor at the Bellevue Club, and as the editor, writer and photographer for its monthly magazine, REFLECTIONS. As the Communications Editor, she oversees and edits all Club marketing material, updates the blog and produces the magazine’s content, among other things.
Allyson has a B.A. in Journalism and Communication with a magazine emphasis, and a minor in English from the University of Oregon.
She’s an Oregon native and began her journalism career as the Editor-in-Chief of her school newspaper. As a freshmen and sophomore at UO, she worked as an Associate Editor for both Ethos and KD magazines. During her junior year, she was accepted as an Associate Editor for Flux magazine-one of the most recognized college publications in the nation for content and layout, also winner of dozens of awards.
During fall 2010, her senior year, Allyson served as Executive Editor for Flux, and during the winter, she served as Managing Editor for print while she prepared for an early graduation.
Allyson’s passion is writing and storytelling. She relishes the opportunity to interview a variety of people and learn about their lives. Allyson also takes great joy in becoming a brief expert in random hobbies and subjects while she researches and explores new stories each month. She is an avid reader, and especially admires Jodi Picoult’s combination of detailed research, court issues and emotional stories. She also loves the vivid imaginations of J.K. Rowling, Suzanne Collins and Erin Morgenstern.
She finished her first manuscript (with many more to come) and is working hard to cross “Publish a Book” off her bucket list.
Please enjoy browsing the website to learn more about her work experience and travels. Both of her blogs, Words from a Nerd and Being Present in the After display a lighter side to her writing, and offer an intimate (ahem, *eccentric) look into her musings.
